A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Penlee House Gallery & Museum is open Monday to Saturday throughout the year including Spring and Summer Bank Holidays.

(last admission 4.00pm)

We are open Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays).
We will be open on the following Bank Holidays in 2024:

  • 27 May 2024
  • 26 August 2024

Closed: 24-26 December 2024 and 1 January 2025


During an exhibition rehang, it is necessary to close some of the galleries. Please check what is open before making a special journey at these times.

In 2024, the exhibition rehang periods will be:

22 – 30 April 2024

30 September – 9 October 2024

The Museum and Gallery 5 with a selection of Newlyn School works. As well as a small exhibition of Barbara Wills’s work to commemorate the centenary of her birth on display in the Social History Gallery

Please note, from 1 April Adult tickets will be £8 and 18-26 year old/student tickets will be £4.

During rehang periods, admission prices are half price.

All registered students qualify for the £3 ticket (and half price during rehang) on production of valid Student ID.


Penzance Pass

The Penzance Pass enables free entry all year round to Penlee House Gallery & Museum for everyone who lives within the Penzance Parish. Residents of Penzance, Gulval, Heamoor, Mousehole, Newlyn and Paul can get a Pass, by coming in to Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance with proof of address and a card can be issued straight away. We offer free entry to Friends of Penlee House, Penzance Pass, The Art Fund, Museums Association, South Western Federation of Museums, Cornwall Volunteers Scheme.
