The Judgement of Paris

Acc.no: PEZPH : 2016.113

IDENFIFICATION

Brief Description: A sailor has returned from service in the Royal Navy and is offering an exotic fruit, an orange, to a young girl while her mother, sister and grandmother look on. The title lends a playful sense of Heroic grandeur to a homespun scene - in the Greek myth Paris awards a prize of a golden fruit to the fairest of three goddesses, Aphrodite, Hera and Athena. This was painted the year that Bourdillon came to Newlyn.
