A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Orangery Café

The Orangery Café has indoor and outdoor seating. It uses the best local produce for its cakes and light lunches. Children’s portions are available.

Penlee Park

The surrounding park has sub-tropical plants and mature trees. The tranquil Memorial Garden and Sensory Garden offer places for quiet enjoyment. For younger visitors the park also offers a children’s play area.


Interactive ‘Fisherman’s Pockets’ are available to borrow during your visit with toys and games to keep younger visitors entertained. There’s a ‘Spot It’ quiz and colouring table in the local history gallery.

Wheelchair Users & Buggies

There is level, ramped or lift access to all areas and an adapted toilet with baby changing facilities. A wheelchair is also available to borrow for use in the gallery.

Between exhibitions, it is necessary to close some of the galleries, so please check what is open before making a special journey during those times. Click here for 2020 details. Entrance to Penlee House is half price during rehang periods.

Three parking spaces at the back of Penlee House are reserved for disabled badge-holders. Please enter via the Morrab Road entrance (SatNav TR18 4EP)

Physical Access

Penlee House is fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs and there is an adapted toilet and baby-change facility. Seating is provided in most galleries and a wheelchair is available to borrow during your visit.

Tours & Groups

A free introductory talk can usually be provided on request and a full guided tour can be arranged for an additional charge. Please note that prior booking is essential for all groups and the maximum group size is 25. Please visit our Group Bookings page for further details.


Dogs are welcome on leads within the park and on the terrace outside the cafe, but dogs are not permitted in the building. A water bowl is provided on the terrace.

Penlee House is part of the Penzance Community Toilet Scheme which offers free facilities.
