School visits

School group visits to Penlee House are FREE, but must be booked in advance.  Due to the size of our gallery spaces, it may be necessary to split a class into two, one group upstairs and one group downstairs, and then swap them around.

For all school visit enquiries please contact the Education and Outreach Officer, Zoe Burkett.  Telephone 01736 363625 or email

Self-guided visits

Schools are more than welcome to bring their students for a self-led visit to the galleries.  Please contact the Education and Outreach Officer to discuss your requirements and to book a slot.

Brief introductory talks

A short introductory talk about the gallery and its exhibitions is available free to all school groups; this can be targeted to a specific area of study by prior arrangement.

School workshops

For information on our standard workshops please visit the Workshops page.  We can tailor any workshop to meet your requirements or work on specific partnership projects.  Please contact the Education and Outreach Officer to discuss your needs.

A member of Penlee House staff or one of our education volunteers can visit schools and, in conjunction with the class teacher, lead an object handling session, using artefacts and costume from our handling collection.

Teacher pre-visits

We welcome pre-visits by teachers or group leaders who are bringing groups to the gallery.  Please contact the Education and Outreach Officer to arrange a time.

We welcome any comments on your experience of visiting Penlee House; please contact us.  Groups attending schools workshops at Penlee House will be provided with an evaluation form after their visit; we appreciate any feedback and use comments to improve our services.

Temporary Exhibition Programme

Penlee has a programme of five exhibitions every year, each of which features an aspect of the historic art and culture of the area.  In addition, there is usually at least one room dedicated to Newlyn School and Lamorna Group paintings, plus galleries dedicated to archaeology and social history. To find out more about current exhibitions, please visit the Exhibitions page.
