Penlee House Gallery & Museum Director

37 hours per week, Local Authority Salary Scale SCP 35-37 (£31,401-£33,136)

We are seeking a Museums professional with a minimum of 3 years’ experience at an intermediate or management level who is able to lead and inspire our small, dedicated team of staff and harness the enthusiasm of our many volunteers. Candidates must possess a Degree in a relevant subject and have expertise in at least one professional museum discipline or equivalent. Specialist knowledge of the art and heritage represented at Penlee House an advantage. In return, the Council offers 21 days annual leave (rising to 25 days after 5 years’ service) and generous employer contributions to the pension scheme.

Volunteering Opportunities

There are many different ways to get involved with Penlee House's work, and we offer a range of fulfilling opportunities for volunteers at all career stages.

The galleries are invigilated by volunteer Stewards, each covering a half-day shift running either from 10.00 - 1.30 or from 1.30 - 5.00, with a 15 minute break for a complimentary drink and slice of cake. You could volunteer once a week to once a month.  Please contact David Trevivian on 01736 363625 for further details.

We also welcome help with other aspects of our work, including researching and data-inputting information on our collections, assisting with education workshops and a variety of specialist support roles relating to our collections. Citizen Curators

Citizen Curators is a free work-based training programme in museum awareness and modern curatorial practice aimed at volunteers from our community.  We are currently recruiting 5 Citizen Curators to take part, starting in September 2018.  To find out more, please click here
