Following the retirement of Jonathan Holmes, we are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Education and Outreach Officer, Katherine Ashton.
Katherine has been working in museums for over 20 years. Initially trained as a Museum Conservator, specialising in Gilding and Painted Surface Decoration, she worked for English Heritage at Brodsworth Hall in Yorkshire and then in various museums in Lincolnshire as a Documentation Officer/Museum Officer. Following this, she had a short spell working in a theatre as lighting technician and cinema projectionist, and helping out with a theatre group for adults with learning disabilities. Since 2004, Katherine has been working at Bassetlaw Museum in Nottinghamshire, first as Collections Officer and then Education and Outreach Officer.
Although not directly connected with the local area, Katherine has been a regular visitor to West Cornwall over recent years, including undertaking a placement at Penlee House while working towards Associateship of the Museums Association. She brings a passion for the area's heritage to combine with her extensive experience working with schools, colleges and adult learners, and we are sure she will be a great asset to the Penlee House team.
Katherine starts work at Penlee House on 12 July 2010, and we wish her a long and happy time as one of the Penlee crew!
