menu card for the Western Union Telegraph and Cable Company 36th Annual Dinner of the Penzance staff, held at the Union Hotel on Wednesday January 1st 1930. Details within the card (on two paper pages) include a listed set menu, itinerary, for example, toasts and a staff presentation to Mr T. O'Donoghue, Esq (Chairman), as well as a list of staff and the dinner committee. The card is bound with a piece of cream cord with decorative ends. On the front is an oval photograph of Thomas O'Donoghue, Esq (Chairman) and underneath is printed in gold : '1879 Valentia' and '1929 Penzance'.

In July 1949, the Western Union Fleet visited Mount's Bay and to celebrate the occasion, an afternoon of sailing events was held. This leaflet is the programme and shows a map of the course to be followed, sailing instructions to competitors and the details and start times of the six races to be held. On the front cover is the borough coat of arms and on the rear cover is an advertisement for Taylor's Garage.

Bringing the transatlantic cable ashore at Sennen cove
The item is a photocopy of an article taken from the Western Morning News, dating to Thursday, April 21st, 1966. It is written by Mary Drake, and details the life of Maria Branwell of Penzance, who was the mother of the very much renowned Bronte sisters. It mentions that at the time it went to press, there were still members of the Branwell family line still living in Penzance, and much of the information is provided by Hugh Branwell.

Below, in black type, is a record of which contractors repaired certain areas of Penzance and Mousehole and gives details of the official opening of the New Promenade by Alderman K.G Foster, Chairman of Cornwall County Council. Gray, Conoley & Co, Falmouth, E. Thomas & Co Ltd., Falmouth, Cornwall County Council and Venn Brothers Ltd., Penzance are listed as the contractors. Handwritten on the reverse side is 'STORM / ASH WED 7 MARCH 1962'.
