This is the view of Newlyn and Penlee Point from the rocks known as Devil's Leap or Le Grice's Folly at Tolcarne above St Peter's Church. The road below is known as the Coombe and leads to the Lands End Road. There is a mine shaft at Penlee Point and you can see the road over the hill to Mousehole to its right. The Gwavas Quarry opened in 1890. Buildings clutter around the Old Pier and the North Pier. Houses in the foreground appear solid and well maintained. At this time Newlyn was regarded as two settlements, one this side of the river at Tolcarne and the other from the bottom of Old Paul Hill upwards.
The West door to the castle on St Michaels Mount. This used to be the main entrance.
