St. Ives Archive Study Centre The St Ives Archive Study Centre is a charitable organisation which is part of the St Ives Trust which was set up in 1967 to protect and preserve the unique beauty and character of St Ives. The Centre, which opened in September 1996, is located in a room on the first floor of the Public Library in Gabriel Street. Its primary responsibilities are:-
to collect and catalogue general information about all aspects of the town in the form of written material, photographs, audio and videos tapes. This information is being entered onto a computer database. Staffed entirely by volunteers and financed through donations and fund raising events, the Centre is a community based project linked to the local public library, the County Record Office, Tate Gallery St Ives, the St Ives Museum and other archive centres such as the West Cornwall Arts Archive, libraries, schools and colleges both within and out side Cornwall. As well as welcoming information, it is also promoting special projects such as recording reminiscences from the public to supplement written material. The Centre is open Tuesday to Fridays between 10.30 and 5.00, but please phone +44 1736 796408, if possible, to make a prior appointment.
