William Teulon Blandford Fletcher was a member of the Newlyn colony only fleetingly. He was a close friend of some of the artists, however, and remained in contact long after he ceased to visit west Cornwall.
Blandford Fletcher was an early friend of Stanhope Forbes and trained in much the same fashion. It is said that he did much to gather the colony of artists in Newlyn. However, Fletcher could not find the subjects that appealed to him to paint and despite the fact that Forbes and Chevallier Tayler made expeditions to find subjects suitable for Fletcher, within a year he stopped trying and went off with Tayler to ‘fresh fields and pastures new’.
