Volunteering Opportunities
There are many different ways to get involved with Penlee House's work, and we offer a range of fulfilling opportunities for volunteers at all career stages.
The galleries are invigilated by volunteer Stewards, each covering a half-day shift running either from 10.00 - 1.30 or from 1.30 - 5.00, with a 15 minute break for a complimentary drink and slice of cake from our Orangery cafe. We have a core of around 100 Stewards, and commitment ranges from more than once a week to less than once a month, depending on the time each chooses to give. If you think you might be interested in Stewarding for us, please contact David Trevivian on 01736 363625 for further details.
We also welcome help with other aspects of our work, including researching and data-inputting information on our collections, assisting with education workshops (for which an enhanced CRB check is required, which we will organise) and a variety of specialist support roles relating to our collections (e.g. archaeology, natural history, textiles). Please contact us on 01736 363625 or email us at info@penleehouse.org.ukif you feel you have skills to offer and would like to get involved.
Work Experience Placements
Penlee House Gallery & Museum offers around four Work Experience Placements in each school year.
If you think you might be interested in a work experience placement at Penlee House, please have a look at our Work Experience information and if you wish to apply, please complete the application form provided and send it to us, along with a covering letter that explains why you would particularly like a work placement with the us and which week you would like to come.
The closing date for all applications is six weeks BEFORE the placement is due to start.
Due to the high level of demand, we are only able to offer students one week of work experience. We will contact you as soon as possible after your application form has been received, and if you have been short-listed, you will be sent a letter telling you what to do next. Short-listed applicants may be invited to attend an interview.
