Gifts Given
Whilst everyone was thinking of gifts to give to loved ones, Penlee House celebrated the gifts (donations and bequests) of fine and decorative art received by Penlee House on behalf of the public over recent years. One benefactor alone - George Bednar - has given over 30 works to the collections, including seven drypoint engravings by Elizabeth Forbes and paintings by Laura Knight, Fred Millard, Edwin Harris and Gwendolin Margaret Hopton. Other gifts and bequests have included works ranging from pictures by Newlyn School painters such as Harold Harvey, Ruth Simpson and Garnet Wolseley, through to paintings by 20th century and contemporary artists such as John Miller, Kurt Jackson, Bob Vigg, John Piper and Donald Swann. As a gift back to the visiting public, admission to Penlee House was FREE throughout this exhibition.
